Israel’s military said a single rocket launched from southern Gaza crossed the border and struck Kibbutz Nirim at about 21:00 local time on 6 July. Warning sirens sounded in the community, and the projectile landed inside the kibbutz, causing minor structural damage but no casualties, according to the Israel Defense Forces and the Eshkol Regional Council. Local media reported that the impact zone was part of a reconstruction project for homes destroyed during the 7 October 2023 Hamas assault on the Gaza-border communities. The IDF noted that the rocket was the seventh fired at Israeli areas adjacent to the Gaza Strip since the start of July. The Al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas, said it had fired “Rajoom” 114-millimetre rockets at Nirim and Ein HaShlosha and shelled Israeli forces near Khan Younis. While Israel and Hamas have repeatedly exchanged fire since the 2023 war, the latest incident underscores the continuing volatility around the Gaza perimeter nearly two years after the large-scale attacks that set off the conflict.
