Hamas’s armed wing released a pair of statements this week praising recent assaults on Israeli forces and urging militants in the occupied territories to intensify their campaign. Spokesperson Abu Obeida hailed the 8 July "complex operation" in Beit Hanoun, northern Gaza, as a further blow to what he described as Israel’s “feeble army,” saying the raid shattered a sector the Israel Defense Forces had considered secure. Following a stabbing-and-shooting attack on 10 July that killed an Israeli reserve soldier at the Gush Etzion Junction south of Jerusalem, Abu Obeida labelled the incident “heroic” and called on Palestinians from Hebron to Jenin, as well as in Jerusalem, to escalate armed resistance against Israeli troops and settlers. He warned that keeping Israeli forces inside Gaza would be Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s “most foolish decision,” and encouraged additional strikes to deter what he termed ongoing Israeli aggression.
