An Israeli soldier was moderately wounded on Thursday when a Palestinian man, identified by local officials as 55-year-old Ahmad Ali Amour, stabbed him during an Israel Defense Forces operation in the West Bank village of Rummanah, northwest of Jenin. The army said troops opened fire and "neutralised" the assailant, evacuating the injured soldier to Rambam Hospital in Haifa for treatment. Palestinian media and the Health Ministry gave a sharply different account, accusing soldiers of shooting Amour and then running over his body with a military vehicle before removing the remains. They added that troops detained Amour’s two sons and several other residents after sweeping through the village. Witnesses said the raid lasted roughly five hours, during which soldiers imposed a curfew, searched dozens of homes and questioned villagers in the streets. The incident adds to a surge of violence around Jenin, where Palestinian officials say Amour’s death brings the number of Palestinians killed in the district since January to at least 41.
