Israeli security forces on Sunday surrounded a house in the village of Salem, east of Nablus in the occupied West Bank, during what local residents said was a predawn raid. The troops arrested a Palestinian youth while encircling the building and blocked access to the area, according to eyewitness accounts. The Palestinian Red Crescent later confirmed that the same individual was fatally shot inside the besieged home. Local sources said the Israeli forces also seized the victim’s vehicle before withdrawing. No Israeli casualties were reported, and the army has not released a public statement on the incident. The killing adds to heightened tensions across the West Bank, where the United Nations says more than 250 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli security forces since the start of last year, amid frequent raids, settler violence and near-daily clashes.
