During the 12-day conflict between Iran and Israel, Iran successfully increased the penetration rate of its missiles through Israel's advanced air defense systems. Initially, only 8% of Iranian missiles breached Israeli defenses in the first half of the war, but this rate doubled to 16% in the latter half. This improvement was achieved despite Iran launching fewer missiles overall. According to a Wall Street Journal report citing missile-defense experts, Iran adapted its tactics by employing more advanced missiles, altering launch patterns, and conducting launches from various locations deep inside its territory. This trial-and-error approach allowed Iran to identify and exploit vulnerabilities in Israel's multilayered air defense network. On June 22, for example, 10 out of 27 missiles successfully hit Israeli targets. Analysts suggest that Iran's continuous modification of military algorithms confused Israeli defense systems, although Israel is expected to develop countermeasures for future conflicts. The findings highlight challenges even the most sophisticated defense systems face against evolving missile threats.
