Iranian Foreign Ministry: IAEA Director General's report provided pretext for attacking Iran's nuclear facilities

Iran warned that it can no longer guarantee the safety of International Atomic Energy Agency inspectors working at its nuclear sites while it assesses damage from recent strikes on the facilities. Foreign-ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said on 30 June that expecting Tehran to maintain normal cooperation with the United Nations watchdog under current conditions was “entirely unrealistic.” Baghaei accused IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi of issuing a report that provided the “pretext” for the attacks, which Iran blames on Israel and the United States, and cautioned neighbouring states against allowing their territory or airspace to be used for further raids. He added that Iran is compiling evidence to present to international bodies and reiterated that any future cooperation with the agency depends on inspector security. Two days later, Mohammad Eslami, head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, said bombings cannot derail the country’s indigenous nuclear industry, describing the strikes as a violation of the UN Charter but insisting that “the path of progress will continue with strength and determination.” The security warning and defiant rhetoric highlight escalating tension over Iran’s atomic programme after a series of covert or military operations targeting its enrichment and research infrastructure. The IAEA has not yet commented publicly on the Iranian statements.
