Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian claimed in an interview released Monday with U.S. commentator Tucker Carlson that Israel attempted to assassinate him. “They did try, yes, but they failed,” he said, adding that he was attending a meeting when Israeli forces allegedly tried to bomb the area. Pezeshkian stressed that the United States was not involved in the plot. The president indicated the attempt occurred during last month’s 12-day conflict that began on 13 June, when Israeli airstrikes struck Iranian nuclear and military facilities. Iranian authorities say the fighting left at least 1,060 people dead in Iran; Israel reports 28 fatalities from Iranian missile and drone retaliation. Pezeshkian argued the strike derailed U.S.–Iran nuclear talks but said Tehran remains willing to resume negotiations if trust can be rebuilt. Israeli officials have not publicly responded to the allegation.
