Reza Asheri, a hard-line member of the Rasht city council in northern Iran, published an Instagram post on 9 July urging Israel to assassinate President Masoud Pezeshkian. In the post, Asheri claimed Israel had already “martyred” former president Ebrahim Raisi and said killing Pezeshkian would force Iran to admit defeat in its ongoing conflict.
