BREAKING - Khamenei says Israel war meant to 'overthrow system' in Iran https://t.co/AzIpWph7Pf
Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said on Wednesday that Israel’s military campaign against Iran last month was designed to weaken the Islamic Republic and trigger unrest that would topple its political system. Speaking in Tehran to senior judiciary officials, Khamenei alleged that Israeli strikes targeted high-ranking officers and sensitive sites in a bid to sow chaos and overthrow the government. Israel launched the assault on 13 June, carrying out hundreds of airstrikes on military, nuclear and governmental facilities and killing senior commanders and scientists. Iranian authorities say more than 1,000 people were killed. Iran responded with missile and drone attacks that, according to Israeli figures, left 28 people dead. A cease-fire took effect on 24 June, ending 12 days of fighting. The United States, Israel’s main ally, entered the conflict on 22 June with strikes on Iran’s underground enrichment plant at Fordo and other nuclear sites at Isfahan and Natanz. The hostilities derailed U.S.–Iran nuclear negotiations that had been scheduled to resume two days after the war began. Khamenei warned that Iran could deliver “even stronger” blows if fighting resumes, while lawmakers in Tehran set unspecified preconditions for any future talks with Washington.
