Israel carried out its heaviest bombardment of Lebanon in months late Sunday and Monday, striking targets in both the country’s south and the eastern Bekaa Valley. The Israeli Defense Forces said the attacks hit weapons-storage and production facilities, rocket-launch sites and other infrastructure used by Hezbollah. Lebanese authorities reported civilian casualties despite the Israeli military’s assertion that it was aiming at militant assets. The Health Ministry said nine people were wounded in the coastal town of Burj Rahal in Tyre District and one child was critically injured in a separate strike on Wadi al-Zararia in Sidon District, bringing the civilian toll to 10. The air campaign continued the next day with drones destroying a vehicle in Deir Kifa, about 20 kilometers from the border, killing one person, according to state media. A subsequent strike on a motorcycle in Beit Lif killed a Hezbollah member, Al Arabiya reported, and additional explosions were recorded in Chaat in the Bekaa region. The escalation is the latest breach of a ceasefire brokered on 27 November 2024 following last year’s war. Lebanese officials say Israel has violated the truce roughly 3,000 times, causing 232 deaths and 531 injuries. Israel has not commented on those figures, but maintains that continued strikes are needed to deter Hezbollah activity near the frontier.
