Israeli warplanes struck targets in central and southern Gaza on Tuesday, killing six Palestinians who had previously been held in Israeli jails, according to hospital officials in the enclave. Five of the dead were among the more than 1,000 detainees released and deported to Gaza under the 2011 Wafa al-Ahrar prisoner-exchange deal, while the sixth had been expelled from Bethlehem’s Church of the Nativity following the 2002 standoff. Medical sources said the airstrike hit the Sanabel camp in Mawasi Khan Younis and the nearby town of Al-Zawayda. They identified the victims as Amjad Abu Arqoub, Bilal Zara', Mahmoud Abu Sariya, Mahmoud al-Dahbour and Naji Abiat, along with one other former inmate whose name was not immediately released. The Israeli military did not immediately comment on the report. The attack adds to the rising death toll in Gaza as the conflict between Israel and Palestinian factions enters its tenth month, with former prisoners and deportees increasingly caught in the fighting.
