Gaza’s civil defence agency said two Israeli air strikes overnight killed 20 people, including at least six children, and wounded more than 30 others. Agency spokesman Mahmud Bassal told AFP the first strike hit a tent sheltering displaced families in the Al-Mawasi area of Khan Yunis shortly after midnight, and the second struck the Al-Shati camp near Gaza City soon afterwards. The victims came from two families, and several people remain missing under the rubble. The Israeli military said it was examining the reports. The bombings coincided with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump in Washington, where Netanyahu reiterated Israel’s goals of freeing remaining hostages and dismantling Hamas. According to Gaza’s health ministry, at least 57,575 people have been killed in the territory during the 21-month conflict, while Israeli figures show 1,219 people were killed in Hamas’s 7 October 2023 assault and 49 hostages are still held in Gaza.
