Israeli forces have intensified air, land and naval operations across the Gaza Strip since 14 August, striking residential buildings, schools and aid distribution points in Gaza City, the central refugee camps and southern districts. Artillery, drone and helicopter fire were reported in the Zeitoun, Al-Rimal, Jabalia and Al-Sabra neighbourhoods, while separate strikes hit displacement tents in Al-Mawasi near Khan Younis and in Sheikh Ajlin, and a fishing boat off Gaza’s coast. A fisherman was killed and a colleague wounded by naval gunfire, while drone and artillery attacks on the Al-Bureij camp and nearby areas left additional casualties. Gaza Civil Defense stated that Israeli units are using remotely operated explosives to level homes in the Zeitoun district, where it estimates some 50,000 civilians remain. Spokespeople described the situation as “very difficult,” citing limited access to food, water and medical care amid continuing demolitions and shelling. The escalation follows Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s recent declaration that Israel will move to seize Gaza City and adjoining “central camps” as part of a wider campaign to dismantle Hamas.
