Following the United Nations' official declaration of famine in Gaza on August 22, 2025, more than 100 members of the U.S. Congress, including Representatives Pressley, Pettersen, Escobar, Garcia, and Ilhan Omar, have called on the Trump Administration to exert pressure on the Israeli government to immediately allow a substantial increase in humanitarian aid to the region. The UN has highlighted that children are the most vulnerable amid the famine, with one in five babies born underweight and widespread malnutrition affecting growth and immunity. Reports indicate that 19,000 children have been killed in Gaza, and thousands more face imminent risk of starvation. Despite the presence of food and baby formula near Gaza's borders, the ongoing Israeli military blockade is preventing essential supplies from reaching those in need. Congress members urge Secretary of State Rubio to demand that Israel lift the blockade to enable unimpeded humanitarian access and save lives, particularly those of infants at risk of starvation.
It is unacceptable that babies in Gaza are starving while food and formula sit within reach. I joined @RepPressley and @RepPettersen in urging @SecRubio to move this aid now and save innocent lives. https://t.co/BYzKuwbt8X
No parent should hear their baby cry from hunger and be powerless to feed them. Yet in Gaza, infants are dying while baby formula sits blocked at the border. @SecRubio must demand that Israel end the blockade and allow life-saving aid to reach families. https://t.co/1gR49D8Zvq
Following Friday's UN declaration of famine in Gaza, I’ve joined @RepPressley, @RepPettersen, and 100 other colleagues to call on the Trump Administration to use its full power and authority to demand that the Israeli government immediately facilitate a massive surge in aid.
