The Arizona Diamondbacks overpowered the San Francisco Giants 8–2 on Tuesday night in Phoenix, launching four home runs and deepening San Francisco’s recent slide. Jake McCarthy’s 422-foot three-run blast in the fourth inning erased a 2–1 deficit and proved decisive. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. added a two-run shot in the fifth, and Randal Grichuk followed with a 453-foot solo drive before James McCann capped the scoring with back-to-back homers in the sixth. Grichuk’s shot was Arizona’s 19th of at least 430 feet this season, the most in Major League Baseball. Right-hander Zac Gallen struck out 10 over seven innings, allowing one earned run to rebound from a shaky stretch of starts. The Giants had opened the game with a solo homer from Willy Adames and a Patrick Bailey RBI groundout, but two passed balls by Bailey later aided Arizona’s rally. San Francisco has dropped four straight and seven of its last eight games. The club has scored three or fewer runs in 29 of its past 49 contests and is 4–10 since acquiring third baseman Rafael Devers in mid-June.
