Amazon MGM Studios said the first trailer for its sci-fi feature “Project Hail Mary” amassed about 400 million views across social-media platforms in the week following its 30 June debut, the most ever recorded for an original (non-sequel, non-remake) film, according to analytics firm WaveMetrix. The surge also marks the biggest trailer launch in the studio’s history. Directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the movie adapts Andy Weir’s 2021 bestselling novel. Ryan Gosling plays Ryland Grace, a middle-school science teacher who wakes on a spacecraft 12 light-years from Earth with no memory and learns he must reverse a solar dimming event threatening extinction. Sandra Hüller co-stars as the mission’s commander. The film is scheduled for theatrical and IMAX release on 20 March 2026. The screenplay is by Drew Goddard, with cinematography from Oscar-winner Greig Fraser. Producers include Gosling, Lord, Miller, Weir and Amy Pascal. The directors and cast are slated to promote the project at San Diego Comic-Con later this month, underscoring Amazon MGM’s push to build momentum ahead of the film’s release.
