Apple on Monday released the first full trailer for “Highest 2 Lowest,” a Spike Lee crime thriller that reunites the director with longtime collaborator Denzel Washington. The film is a modern New York City–set reinterpretation of Akira Kurosawa’s 1963 classic “High and Low,” centring on a music-industry mogul whose son is kidnapped and held for ransom. “Highest 2 Lowest” will open in a limited theatrical run on 15 August, positioning it for awards consideration, before streaming globally on Apple TV+ on 5 September. The cast also features Jeffrey Wright, rapper A$AP Rocky—who previews new music in the trailer—and Ice Spice. The project marks the fifth collaboration between Lee and Washington, whose previous pairings include “Malcolm X” and “Inside Man.” Apple’s trailer release continues the company’s strategy of backing prestige cinema with short theatrical windows ahead of streaming exclusivity.
