Independent Film Company and AMC Networks’ horror streamer Shudder have jointly acquired North American rights to “Queens of the Dead,” the debut feature from filmmaker Tina Romero, daughter of the late zombie pioneer George A. Romero. The companies plan a theatrical rollout in fall 2025 before the film makes its way to Shudder. The horror-comedy follows a group of drag performers and club kids who band together when a zombie outbreak interrupts their Brooklyn warehouse show. The ensemble cast features Katy O’Brian, Jaquel Spivey, Margaret Cho and Cheyenne Jackson, among others. “Queens of the Dead” premiered at this year’s Tribeca Festival, where it won the Audience Award for Best Narrative Film. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. The picture was produced by Matthew Lee Miller and Natalie Metzger for Vanishing Angle.
