Denis Villeneuve’s next installment in the science-fiction franchise has been officially titled “Dune: Part Three,” ending speculation that the picture would carry the name of Frank Herbert’s 1969 novel “Dune Messiah.” Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Entertainment confirmed the naming convention, which keeps the sequence consistent with the first two films. The production will employ IMAX cameras for selected sequences, but will not be shot entirely in the premium format. IMAX Chief Executive Officer Richard Gelfond had suggested in a CNBC interview that the whole film would use the company’s cameras; IMAX and studio representatives later clarified that his comment was inaccurate. Filming has begun in Budapest with Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya and Jason Momoa among the returning cast. Variety reports the picture is scheduled to reach cinemas in December 2026, positioning it as a major holiday release ahead of Villeneuve’s planned reboot of the James Bond franchise.
