The San Francisco 49ers are signing veteran wide receiver Russell Gage Jr. to a one-year contract and will place him on their 53-man roster, general manager John Lynch confirmed Wednesday. Gage is expected to join team drills at Thursday’s practice. The club must first clear a roster spot, with the corresponding move due to be completed before his on-field return. Lynch added that the 49ers also intend to sign fellow wideout Marquez Valdes-Scantling as they reshape depth behind starters Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk.
