Prime Minister Narendra Modi hosted Fiji Prime Minister Sitiveni Ligamamada Rabuka in Delhi on August 25, 2025, for a series of high-level bilateral talks aimed at deepening India-Fiji cooperation. The visit included delegation-level discussions, joint press statements, and meetings with Indian President Droupadi Murmu. Key outcomes of the visit included the signing of seven agreements covering strategic sectors such as healthcare, defense, and education. India announced the construction of a 100-bed super speciality hospital in Suva, Fiji, alongside the provision of dialysis units, sea ambulances, and medicine supplies under India's Jan Aushadhi program. A defense action plan was agreed upon, including training initiatives, the establishment of a Defence Attache office at the Indian High Commission in Fiji, gifting of ambulances to Fijian forces, and assistance in creating a cyber cell for Fijian authorities. Additionally, India committed to sending cricket coaches and Hindi/Sanskrit teachers to Fiji, reflecting cultural and sports diplomacy efforts. PM Modi highlighted the historical ties between the two countries, referencing the Indian indentured workers (Girmityas) who contributed to Fiji's development. Fiji expressed interest in joining the Indo-Pacific Oceans Initiative (IPOI), signaling a shared commitment to a free, inclusive, and secure Indo-Pacific region. The visit also underscored Fiji's role as a hub for India's cooperation in the Pacific. Separately, PM Modi flagged off the 'e-VITARA,' Suzuki's first global strategic battery electric vehicle (BEV), at the Suzuki Motor plant in Hansalpur, Ahmedabad. The Made-in-India BEV is set for export to over 100 countries, marking a milestone in India's green mobility and manufacturing ambitions. Modi emphasized India's growing capabilities in electric vehicle production and battery manufacturing, highlighting the country's expanding industrial partnership with Japan. The upcoming India-Japan annual summit on August 29-30 and the SCO summit in Tianjin, China, on August 31-September 1 were also noted as key diplomatic engagements for PM Modi.
