Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian Visits Pakistan for Two Days, Signs 12 MoUs, Meets PM Shehbaz Sharif, Agrees on $8 Billion Trade Boost

Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian arrived in Pakistan on August 2, 2025, for a two-day official visit. He was welcomed in Lahore by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif and former Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif. During his visit, President Pezeshkian paid respects at the Mausoleum of Allama Iqbal before proceeding to Islamabad, where he was received by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif with a 21-gun salute and a guard of honor at the Prime Minister's House. The visit included one-on-one talks between President Pezeshkian and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, as well as meetings between the trade ministers of both countries. Pakistan and Iran agreed to increase their annual bilateral trade volume to $8 billion and exchanged 12 key memorandums of understanding and agreements to enhance cooperation. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan's support for Iran's right to peaceful nuclear energy under the United Nations charter and condemned any aggression against Iran. President Pezeshkian expressed gratitude for Pakistan's support against Israeli aggression, describing Pakistan as "our second home." Pakistani officials, including Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, highlighted the historic brotherly ties between the two nations. The Iranian Defense Minister also met with his Pakistani counterpart in Islamabad, emphasizing areas of cooperation in the face of common threats.
