Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif left Islamabad on 3 July and has arrived in Shusha, Azerbaijan, for a two-day visit centred on the 17th Economic Cooperation Organization Summit. He was received at Shusha airport by Azerbaijan’s Minister for Culture Adil Karimli before travelling onward to Baku, where the gathering opens later today. The 10-member bloc’s 17th meeting, held under the banner “New ECO Vision for a Sustainable and Climate Resilient Future,” will focus on bolstering intra-regional trade, transport links and energy cooperation while addressing climate vulnerability across Central and South Asia, the Caucasus and the Middle East. Sharif is scheduled to lead Pakistan’s delegation, outline Islamabad’s priorities on climate resilience and trade facilitation, and hold bilateral talks with fellow leaders on the summit sidelines. The visit marks his first trip to Azerbaijan since taking office in March.
