Ireland closed their two-match summer tour with a 106-7 demolition of Portugal in Lisbon, running in a national-record 16 tries and breaking the century mark for the first time in a Test match. The visitors led 54-0 at half-time and never relented at Estadio Nacional do Jamor, where the attendance was reported at under 10,000. Wing Tommy O’Brien, flanker Cian Prendergast, centre Hugh Gavin and debutant Shayne Bolton each crossed twice, while scrum-half Craig Casey, prop Thomas Clarkson and No. 8 Alex Kendellen were among nine other try-scorers. Fly-half Jack Crowley converted 12 of 16 attempts, setting an Ireland single-game record for successful kicks. The rout capped Paul O’Connell’s first tour in charge and underscored the gulf between sixth-ranked Ireland and No. 18 Portugal, who managed their lone try through flanker Nicolas Martins. With the result, Ireland surpassed their previous best of 13 tries in a Test, achieved against the United States in 2017.
