Apple’s plans for a large-screen foldable device have been pushed back by at least a year, according to a new research note from GF Securities analyst Jeff Pu. The 18.8-inch product, envisioned as an iPad- or MacBook-style hybrid, was previously slated to enter mass production in the fourth quarter of 2026. Pu now expects the device will miss that window and instead reach the production line sometime in 2027. Pu says supply-chain checks show “intact progress” for Apple’s smaller book-style handset, dubbed the iPhone 18 Fold, which remains on course for a second-half-2026 launch. The analyst offered no specific reason for the delay affecting the larger model, but the revised timeline brings his outlook in line with earlier projections from Ming-Chi Kuo and Display Supply Chain Consultants’ Ross Young, who have also cited 2027 as the more realistic target. Apple has not commented on either product. Uncertainty persists over whether the bigger foldable will ship as an iPad running iPadOS, a Mac running macOS, or a crossover device that blends elements of both operating systems. Even so, the postponement underscores the engineering and supply-chain challenges the company faces as it races rivals to introduce foldable hardware across its product lines.
