On August 3, 2025, a Ukrainian drone strike ignited a fire at a fuel depot located at Sochi airport in southern Russia. The regional governor reported that over 120 firefighters were deployed to battle the blaze. The fire was eventually extinguished, according to Russian authorities. The incident involved the impact of drone debris on a fuel tank, which caused the fire. Ukraine's military officially announced the drone attack on the Russian fuel storage facility at Sochi airport. In addition to the Sochi strike, Ukraine's Security Service reported a separate drone attack overnight at the Saki military airfield in Crimea, where one Russian fighter jet was destroyed and four others damaged, aiming to weaken Russia's military capabilities in the occupied Crimea and the Black Sea region. Further drone attacks by Ukraine have targeted Russian infrastructure, including a rail hub in Volgograd that caused a fire and disrupted flights, as well as the Afipsky oil refinery in southern Russia's Krasnodar Krai, which also caught fire following the attacks. Ukrainian forces have additionally used FPV drones to strike various Russian military assets in Crimea, including a high-speed patrol craft and multiple radar systems. Meanwhile, Ukrainian reconnaissance UAVs continue to monitor Russian-occupied areas such as Mariupol in southern Ukraine, which has been under Russian control since May 2022.
