Russian Forces Intercept 46 Ukrainian Drones Overnight, According to RIA Agency
Ukraine carried out another long-range drone strike inside Russia early on 12 Aug, hitting a warehouse at the Alabuga industrial zone in Tatarstan, according to Ukrainian security officials. The site, identified by open-source analysts as the Deng Xiaoping logistics complex, is part of a hub that manufactures and stores Shahed-type drones. Kyiv’s Security Service (SBU) said the attack was the second on the region in four days. SBU chief Vasyl Malyuk told Ukrainian media that the operation drew on tactics perfected in “Operation Spiderweb,” in which agents infiltrated Russia under cover of a fake logistics company. The unit deployed custom first-person-view drones carrying 1.6-kilogram shaped charges after moving equipment across the border via corrupt customs officials, he said. Malyuk added that his agency is thwarting about 80 % of what it calls Russia’s “Diversionary Noise” plan to stage bombings inside Ukraine. Russia’s Defense Ministry said it destroyed 26 Ukrainian drones over five regions, including Tatarstan, on 12 Aug and another 46 overnight, denying major damage. State media also reported the use of 240-millimeter Tyulpan self-propelled mortars against Ukrainian drone teams, while Moscow and Kyiv issued no information on casualties around the Tatarstan strike. The raid underscores Ukraine’s expanding ability to reach targets hundreds of kilometers from the front lines, following June’s Spiderweb attacks that damaged Russian strategic bombers. The deep-strike drone campaign and Russia’s counter-measures mark a further escalation of the cross-border phase of the 2022-born conflict.
