Spain’s governing Socialist Party has chosen Montserrat Mínguez García to serve as its new national spokesperson, replacing Esther Peña. Mínguez, a deputy in Congress and member of the party’s executive, is expected to be formally ratified on Saturday at the PSOE’s Federal Committee meeting chaired by party leader and Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez. In tandem with the appointment, the PSOE has created an adjunct spokesperson role that will be filled by Enma López Araújo, currently the party’s secretary for Economic Policy, Transformation, Entrepreneurship and Social Change and a Madrid city councillor. The moves form part of a wider reorganisation that also names Rebeca Torró as secretary of Organisation following the departure of Santos Cerdán, who is facing legal proceedings in the ‘Koldo’ corruption case.
