Panathinaikos BC AKTOR continued its off-season rebuild by completing the signing of Greek guard Vassilis Toliopoulos on a three-year deal. The 29-year-old arrives from Aris after averaging 15.3 points and 3.6 assists in the 2024–25 Greek Basket League, performances that earned him the domestic league’s Most Improved Player award. Toliopoulos, who has previously played for Olympiacos, AEK and PAOK, will bolster coach Ergin Ataman’s backcourt as the EuroLeague champions seek depth ahead of next season. Attention now turns to the club’s pursuit of Jonas Valanciunas. The Lithuanian center, traded last month from the Sacramento Kings to the Denver Nuggets, has a reported verbal agreement with Panathinaikos but remains under an NBA contract worth $10.4 million for 2025-26 and a non-guaranteed $10 million for 2026-27. Speaking at Lithuania’s B8 Summit, Valanciunas offered no clarity on whether he will honor the deal in Denver or return to Europe, saying, “We’ll only find out when the first game is played.” Greek media have put the likelihood of the seven-footer joining Panathinaikos at about 90 percent, but the Nuggets are expected to insist he stays stateside.
