Databricks used its Data + AI Summit 2025 in San Francisco to introduce a broad set of products and partnerships designed to expand adoption of its Data Intelligence Platform and accelerate enterprise AI projects. The company launched a Free Edition, also called Community Edition, giving developers cost-free access to its cloud-based lakehouse along with newly opened training materials. It also made Lakeflow generally available for unified data ingestion, transformation and orchestration, previewed Lakeflow Designer for building pipelines without code, and released Lakebridge, a free tool aimed at automating migrations from legacy data warehouses to Databricks. Full Apache Iceberg support via Unity Catalog, the Databricks One workspace for business users, and the general-availability rollout of AI/BI Genie—which already counts more than 4,000 organisational adopters—rounded out the product slate. Complementing the releases, Databricks committed $100 million to develop data and AI talent and expanded its startup program, which offers participating young companies up to $50,000 in credits, cloud infrastructure and venture-capital connections. The vendor also strengthened its cloud alliances. It signed a multi-year extension of its strategic partnership with Microsoft for Azure Databricks, highlighted in a keynote conversation between Databricks Chief Executive Officer Ali Ghodsi and Microsoft Chairman and CEO Satya Nadella. Separately, Databricks unveiled a strategic AI partnership with Google Cloud to make the latest Gemini large language models available natively on the platform—a move announced jointly by Ghodsi and Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian. In the broader ecosystem, Informatica said it will serve as launch partner for Databricks’ managed Iceberg tables and new OLTP database service, underscoring growing third-party support for the lakehouse vendor’s open-data strategy.
