Amazon introduces a more affordable color screen Kindle: https://t.co/T2XOA785Od by TechCrunch #infosec #cybersecurity #technology #news
Amazon has expanded its color e-reader lineup with two new devices: a lower-cost Kindle Colorsoft with 16GB of storage priced at $249.99 and a children-oriented Kindle Colorsoft Kids bundle at $269.99. Both models are available immediately and join last year’s 32GB Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition, which remains on sale for $279.99. The new 7-inch color E-Ink readers retain the high-contrast display, adjustable warm light and up to eight weeks of battery life of the Signature Edition, but drop wireless charging, the auto-adjusting front light and half the storage to meet the lower price point. The standard 16GB version ships with three months of Kindle Unlimited, while the Kids bundle adds an illustrated cover, a two-year warranty and a one-year Amazon Kids+ subscription that offers curated books and parental controls. Amazon said customers with the original Colorsoft “spend more time on Kindle and read hundreds more pages” than on its monochrome models, and the company is betting the cheaper hardware will widen adoption. The retailer also noted that software and display tweaks have fixed the yellow-band screen issue that briefly halted Signature Edition shipments shortly after its 2024 launch.
