Amazon opened its summer Prime Day promotion on 8 July by sharply reducing prices on its own Alexa-enabled hardware. The four-day event, which runs through 11 July, features the deepest cuts the company has offered this year on devices such as the Echo Dot, Echo Pop, Echo Spot and Echo Show 8. In the United States, the new Echo Spot smart alarm clock is selling for about $44, down 44 % from the usual $79, while the compact Echo Pop speaker has been marked down 46 % to $21. The larger Echo Show 8 display is listed at $99, a $70 reduction. In the U.K., the Echo Dot is available for £30.99, roughly 44 % below its regular price. Amazon is also bundling hardware in some European markets. In Spain, a package that combines the Echo Pop with a smart LED bulb has been discounted 56 % to €28.99. The price moves underscore Amazon’s strategy of using its annual shopping event to deepen household penetration of the Alexa ecosystem and spur Prime subscriptions ahead of the peak back-to-school and holiday retail seasons.
