Samsung is weighing a redesign of its flagship Galaxy S26 phones that would add a second near-field communication antenna at the top of the handset, according to an ETNews report citing industry sources and a company official. The dual-antenna arrangement would supplement the reader already positioned behind the rear camera module. Placing an NFC element near the phone’s edge is expected to make tap-to-pay transactions through Samsung Wallet more reliable, eliminating the awkward wrist angles users often adopt to align the current reader with payment terminals. Apple holds a cluster of patents on NFC positioning, and the report says Samsung spent “considerable time” finding technical work-arounds. Several Android rivals already employ two-antenna designs to improve payment range, and the change would help Samsung narrow a long-standing usability gap with Apple’s iPhone. The company has not commented on the leak, and final hardware specifications remain unconfirmed. The NFC revision would come alongside other upgrades that leakers say are under discussion for the 2026 line-up, including a roughly 4,400 mAh battery in the ultra-thin Galaxy S26 Edge and a higher-resolution main camera on the S26 Ultra. Samsung typically unveils the Galaxy S range in the first quarter of the year.
