Eighteen-year-old Russian Mirra Andreeva reached her first Wimbledon quarter-final on Monday, beating American Emma Navarro 6-2, 6-3 in 72 minutes on Centre Court. According to Opta, Andreeva is the youngest woman to make the last eight at the Championships since Maria Sharapova in 2005, matching the former champion’s age of 18 years and 62 days at the start of the tournament. Seeded seventh, Andreeva has advanced without dropping a set since the opening round. She opened her campaign with a 6-1, 7-6(4) win over Italy’s Lucia Bronzetti and followed that with a 6-1, 6-3 victory against American qualifier Hailey Baptiste to book her place in the round of 16. Monday’s straight-sets result improved her 2025 record at the majors to 11-2 and gave her 35 wins on the season. The teenager will face Switzerland’s Belinda Bencic for a place in the semi-finals. A win would give Andreeva her third Grand Slam quarter-final appearance overall and keep alive her bid to become the youngest Wimbledon champion since Sharapova’s run two decades ago.
