World No. 80 Kamilla Rakhimova produced the biggest upset of the Wimbledon women’s draw so far, eliminating No. 4 seed and 2024 finalist Jasmine Paolini 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 in a second-round match on Wednesday. Rakhimova, 22, recovered from a set down to claim her first career victory over a top-10 opponent and advance to the third round of a Grand Slam for the first time. The Russian limited her errors in the final set and broke the Italian’s serve twice to close out the two-hour contest on Court 18. Paolini’s early exit means four of the tournament’s top five women’s seeds have been knocked out before the third round, further opening a section already depleted by earlier defeats of No. 22 Donna Vekic and No. 29 Leylah Fernandez. The loss also threatens Paolini’s standing in the rankings, which could fall as low as No. 8 once Wimbledon points are tallied.
