Colin Farrell said the forthcoming Max limited series "The Penguin" only completed production after last year’s six-month writers and actors strikes ended, adding he feared the project might be abandoned when Warner Bros. Discovery scrapped the $90 million “Batgirl” film in 2022. "You better believe it," the actor recalled, noting that mid-strike he told his sister he was unsure the show would ever resume filming. With the eight-episode series now in post-production, Farrell cautioned that talk of a follow-up season is premature. "There is absolutely nothing in process," he told Variety, stressing that the studio has not opened discussions about extending the crime-drama spinoff beyond its initial run. Farrell also said he has not yet read the script for director Matt Reeves’ planned "Batman 2" and does not know whether his Oswald Cobblepot (the Penguin) character will appear in that sequel or in a potential third installment. The actor’s comments underline continued uncertainty around Warner Bros. Discovery’s broader Gotham-based franchise slate despite recent progress on individual projects.
