Peacock dropped the 12-episode second season of “Poker Face” on 10 July, closing with a finale that upended the show’s lie-detection formula. In “The End of the Road,” Alex—played by comedian Patti Harrison and introduced only two episodes earlier as Charlie Cale’s wide-eyed sidekick—is unmasked as the international assassin known as the Iguana. She evades Charlie’s tell-tale “bull----” filter by training herself to suppress every physical cue, murders mob informant Beatrix Hasp and frames Charlie before vanishing over a cliff in Charlie’s Plymouth Barracuda. Showrunner Tony Tost told Variety the twist came from co-executive producer Laura Deeley, who wanted to give Charlie a “Moriarty” and test whether her gift could be beaten. Creator Rian Johnson approved the plan as part of a brief to avoid repeating Season 1’s pursuit plot; the writers built the year around the late-season betrayal, combining standalone mysteries with a slowly brewing conspiracy. Natasha Lyonne, who stars as Charlie, also directed the finale, choreographing a stunt sequence that launches the 1969 Barracuda into Indiana’s fictional Grand Canyon Canyon. Harrison said in separate Deadline and Daily Beast interviews that the role fulfilled her childhood dream of playing an action-movie assassin and that she performed most of her own fight work. With Charlie now wanted by the FBI and her nemesis missing in action, the series ends on another open-road cliff-hanger. Tost said the creative team has “plenty on the table” for a third season, but Peacock has yet to announce a renewal.
