Prime Video today launched “Ballard,” a 10-episode police procedural that extends Michael Connelly’s "Bosch" universe and puts Maggie Q in the lead role as Detective Renée Ballard. Adapted by Connelly and Michael Alamino from the author’s best-selling novels, the series opens with Ballard running the Los Angeles Police Department’s fledgling Cold Case Division after being demoted from Robbery-Homicide for blowing the whistle on a colleague. Early reviews from Variety, the Los Angeles Times and Paste Magazine describe the show as one of the strongest new dramas of the year, praising its pacing, character work and Q’s performance. Set against a backdrop of underfunded investigations, the first season weaves two overarching mysteries—a seven-year-old John Doe murder and the 2001 strangulation of a city councilman’s sister—while drawing on guest appearances from familiar “Bosch” figures. “Ballard” arrives four months after "Bosch: Legacy" concluded its run, providing Prime Video with a fresh anchor for the franchise and extending Connelly’s roster of page-to-screen characters. All episodes are available for streaming globally.
