Netflix has added a fresh outdoor crime drama to its line-up with the 17 July debut of “Untamed,” a six-episode limited series created by father-daughter team Mark L. Smith (The Revenant) and Elle Smith. Set in Yosemite National Park and shot largely in British Columbia, the show stars Eric Bana as Kyle Turner, an Investigative Services Branch agent probing the death of a woman who plunges from El Capitan. Lily Santiago, Sam Neill and Rosemarie DeWitt round out the principal cast. Early reviews are largely favorable, singling out Bana’s “outstanding” lead turn and the scenic cinematography. Variety calls the series “an engrossing ride,” while TheWrap praises its “emotional authenticity.” The Hollywood Reporter and NME describe the production as intriguing but note that its brisk pace leaves some story threads under-developed. TIME’s critique is less enthusiastic, labeling the narrative familiar but conceding that the Yosemite backdrop offers a visual payoff. Although marketed as a limited series, the tightly plotted mystery closes with room for continuation, potentially giving Netflix another franchise candidate alongside hits such as “Reacher” and “Slow Horses.” All six episodes are now available globally on the streaming platform.
