The European Commission on 22 August disbursed €4.05 billion to Ukraine, the latest tranche under the EU’s multi-year support programme for Kyiv. Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said the funds are intended to help finance urgent budget needs, reconstruction projects and reforms aimed at anchoring Ukraine’s path toward EU membership. The payment forms part of a broader financial package approved by member states earlier this year to sustain Ukraine’s economy amid Russia’s ongoing invasion. Brussels has pledged to continue regular transfers, subject to governance and transparency conditions, as Kyiv works to stabilise public finances and rebuild critical infrastructure.
