Russia launched one of its heaviest aerial assaults in weeks overnight, firing 574 drones and 40 cruise and ballistic missiles at targets across western Ukraine, the Ukrainian Air Force said. The barrage reached hundreds of kilometres beyond the front line, striking the historic centre of Lviv and other cities seldom hit in the 3-year war. A pair of missiles destroyed a consumer-electronics plant owned by U.S.–Singaporean manufacturer Flex Ltd. in Mukachevo, near the Hungarian border. Local officials said roughly 600 night-shift workers were on site; at least one person was killed and around 15 were injured. The facility, renovated in April, produced fitness trackers, health monitors and coffee machines for brands including Nike and Google and is regarded as one of the largest American investments in Ukraine. President Volodymyr Zelensky called the strike on Flex a deliberate attack on a civilian enterprise and evidence that Moscow "is not looking for peace." He urged tougher international sanctions and fresh military aid. Kyiv’s figures put overall overnight casualties at about 19 dead or wounded and reported damage to residential buildings, a kindergarten and gas infrastructure. Russia’s Defence Ministry said its missiles targeted defence-industry sites and troop concentrations, a claim Ukraine rejected. The assault came days after U.S.-brokered meetings aimed at jump-starting peace talks and shortly after President Donald Trump met Vladimir Putin in Alaska and hosted Zelensky in Washington. Trump weighed in on the platform Truth Social, criticising former president Joe Biden for limiting Ukraine’s ability to strike inside Russia and stating that "it is impossible to win a war without attacking the invader’s country." His comments highlighted divisions in Washington over how far Kyiv should be allowed to respond as the conflict shows no sign of easing.
