Senator Lindsey Graham says a major turning point is approaching in Russia’s war on Ukraine. https://t.co/Q966MFc2hS
U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham said on CBS’s “Face the Nation” that he expects a “record-level” flow of American weapons to Ukraine to begin within days, describing the move as a turning point in Russia’s 29-month-old invasion. Graham, a South Carolina Republican and close ally of President Donald Trump, added that the White House is likely to tap remaining Presidential Drawdown Authority, worth just under $4 billion, to accelerate deliveries that had stalled earlier this year. The senator’s remarks come ahead of Trump’s promised “major statement” on Russia scheduled for July 14 and a Washington visit by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte. Graham said he and Democratic Senator Richard Blumenthal have secured 85 co-sponsors for a sanctions package that would give the president authority to impose tariffs of up to 500 % on countries supporting Moscow and to redirect part of the G7’s roughly US$300 billion in frozen Russian assets to Kyiv. If confirmed, the stepped-up shipments would mark the first significant expansion of U.S. military support for Ukraine since Trump took office in January and would signal a tougher stance toward the Kremlin after months of unsuccessful efforts to coax President Vladimir Putin to the negotiating table.
