Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky described his recent phone conversation with U.S. President Donald Trump on July 4, 2025, as the most productive and best dialogue they have had to date. Zelensky expressed gratitude for Trump's support regarding air defense systems, particularly the Patriot missile systems, which are critical as Russia intensifies its strikes. Following this, Zelensky met with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, who pledged support for Ukraine by agreeing to finance two Patriot missile systems. Norway also committed to funding one additional Patriot system. Zelensky indicated that Ukraine is seeking a total of 10 Patriot missile batteries and emphasized the importance of securing funding for these billion-dollar defense systems. He also mentioned ongoing investments in production of interceptor drones and other equipment necessary to counter Russian attacks. These developments occurred during the "Coalition of the Willing" meeting in Rome, highlighting continued international cooperation to bolster Ukraine's air defense capabilities.
