Vice President JD Vance traveled to West Pittston, Pennsylvania, on Wednesday to open the White House’s national campaign to promote the recently enacted One Big Beautiful Bill Act, the signature tax-and-spending package President Donald Trump signed on July 4. Speaking at Don’s Machine Shop, Vance said the law delivers “one of the biggest tax breaks in American history” for companies that build and hire in the United States and warned that firms shifting jobs overseas would face a “big, fat tariff.” The visit follows Trump’s own trip to Pittsburgh, where he touted $92 billion in planned artificial-intelligence and data-center investment in the state. The nearly 900-page legislation eliminates federal taxes on tips and overtime pay, expands the child tax credit and offers $1,000 “Trump accounts” to newborns. It also cuts Medicaid and food-assistance spending by roughly $1.2 trillion, while boosting border-security and defense outlays. The non-partisan Congressional Budget Office projects the measure will increase the national debt by $3.3 trillion over the next decade. Vance, whose tie-breaking Senate vote ensured the bill’s passage, urged supporters to spread the word ahead of the 2026 midterms, when control of Congress will determine the future of Trump’s agenda. Democrats denounced the law as a giveaway to wealthier Americans that jeopardizes health coverage for low-income families; a recent Economist/YouGov survey found 53% of adults oppose the measure versus 35% in favor. Cabinet officials are expected to fan out across the country in coming months as Republicans try to turn the legislative win into electoral advantage in key swing districts like northeastern Pennsylvania.
