President Donald Trump’s advisers have widened their search for the next Federal Reserve chair, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing people familiar with the process. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, who is leading the effort, is now vetting roughly 10 potential nominees. Newly added to the list are James Bullard, the former president of the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, and Marc Sumerlin, an economic consultant who served as an adviser to President George W. Bush. Bullard and Sumerlin join candidates already under consideration, including current Fed Governor Christopher Waller and several former officials referred to internally as “the Kevins.” The expanded roster indicates the administration has yet to settle on a finalist as it weighs a range of monetary policy backgrounds and political alignments.
