Bethesda, in collaboration with Nightdive Studios and id Software, has officially re-released the classic first-person shooters Heretic and Hexen as a definitive remastered bundle available on all modern platforms including PC, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch. The re-release features enhanced performance with support for 4K resolution at 120 frames per second, online multiplayer for up to 16 players with cross-play functionality, and two new episodes. The bundle also includes community-published mods and is priced at $14.99. This announcement coincided with QuakeCon 2025, where the creative teams discussed the improvements and new content. The remaster aims to bring these cult classic fantasy FPS titles to a new generation of players, maintaining the original's spell-casting gameplay while updating visuals and performance. Raven Software's Brian Raffel, co-founder and studio head, shared a message about the re-release, highlighting the enhanced experience. The updates have been positively noted for improving gameplay quality compared to previous versions. Additionally, id Software has released an update for Doom: The Dark Ages, introducing a new 'Ripatorium' mode that allows players to create custom wave shooters from the game's demonic enemies.
