Bethesda has issued a Steam-beta version of Update 1.2 for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered that quietly corrects a high-profile lore error introduced when the upgraded edition shipped in April. The patch restores the Dark Brotherhood’s Cheydinhal sanctuary door to its original depiction of the Night Mother murdering her five children—down from the seven shown in the remaster—and brings back the ominous red glow seen in the 2006 release. Although the door change is not listed in the official patch notes, players testing the beta build confirmed the fix, ending months of complaints from series historians who said the inaccurate relief contradicted established Elder Scrolls canon. Beyond the unheralded art update, the patch expands difficulty settings, addresses crashes and frame-rate drops, and delivers a long list of UI, quest and performance improvements. The beta is available to PC owners who opt in via Steam; Bethesda and remaster co-developer Virtuos have not announced when the final version of Update 1.2 will reach consoles and the general PC branch.
