Bethesda Softworks has released a definitive remaster of the 1990s dark-fantasy shooters Heretic and Hexen, combining the two titles under the banner “Heretic + Hexen.” The package, announced during QuakeCon on 7 August, is available immediately on Xbox consoles, Nintendo Switch and PC, with a PlayStation launch expected within days. Developed by id Software veteran Nightdive Studios, the collection adds two entirely new episodes—Heretic: Faith Renewed and Hexen: Vestiges of Grandeur—alongside modern features such as cross-platform online play for up to 16 participants, local split-screen, 4K resolution at 120 frames per second and an in-game mod browser. The digital edition costs $14.99 but is provided at no additional charge to Game Pass subscribers and to owners of earlier PC versions on Steam, the Microsoft Store or GOG. Bethesda said a physical release will follow through specialist publisher Limited Run Games, underscoring the company’s strategy of reviving classic id Software properties for contemporary hardware after recent overhauls of Doom and Quake.
