Naughty Dog on 8 July released a free patch for The Last of Us Part II Remastered that lets players experience the game’s narrative in strict chronological order. The “Chronological Mode,” delivered as Patch 2.1.0 on PlayStation 5 and Patch 1.5 on PC, rearranges Ellie and Abby’s intertwined storylines into a linear timeline, offering an alternative to the sequel’s original flashback-driven structure. The update, developed with PC-port specialist Nixxes, also adds new PlayStation trophies, performance fixes and bug repairs. Players who finish the campaign in the new mode unlock two Uncharted-themed skins: Joel dressed as Nathan Drake and Tommy as Sam Drake for use in the roguelike No Return mode. Naughty Dog said the option is aimed at returning players and recommends first-time audiences stick with the game’s intended nonlinear format. The patch is available immediately on both PS5 and PC at no additional cost.
