Trump To Meet NATO’s Mark Rutte as Plans Surface To Have Atlantic Alliance Buy US-Made Weapons for Ukraine https://t.co/jutBJaNnHX
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte will meet President Donald Trump in Washington on Monday and Tuesday, according to officials from the alliance and the White House. Rutte is also scheduled to confer with Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and key members of Congress. The visit follows Trump’s announcement that the United States will sell advanced weaponry—including additional Patriot air-defence batteries—to European allies on the condition they pass the systems to Ukraine and reimburse Washington in full. Rubio said some of the arms are already deployed with NATO members, allowing faster transfer to the battlefield while European countries purchase U.S.-made replacements. Lawmakers are preparing complementary economic measures aimed at tightening pressure on Moscow. Senators Lindsey Graham and Richard Blumenthal are seeking Trump’s backing for legislation that would impose a 500% tariff on imports from countries that continue to buy Russian energy and authorise use of roughly $300 billion in frozen Russian assets for Kyiv. Trump has signalled he will deliver a "major statement" on Russia as the weapons initiative and sanctions package take shape.
